White House E-mail: Axelrod Spamming or Collecting Addresses? (Updated)

DAVID AXELROD WHITE HOUSE E-MAIL INCLUDED HERE.  VIDEO ADDED AUG 14. The e-mail below from David Axelrod, Senior Advisor to the President, includes the White House logo at the top and the White House address at the bottom. It was received by a "grass rooter" who was kind enough to send it to me along with a question, "Does this mean I'm now on some kind of list?" In other words, she did not opt-in to a White House list and wonders how they obtained her e-mail address. I reported this story the morning of Aug 12 and added the video of the August 13 exchange between Major Garret and Press Secretary Gibbs on Aug 14. SCROLL DOWN TO SEE E-MAIL AND VIDEO.

Notice that the e-mail from Mr. Axelrod gives the recipient the ability to "unsubscribe" to a list she never subscribed to. I think that could be called "spam."

There are eleven links in this e-mail — all going to the whitehouse.gov/realitycheck. If you click on any one of these links, then of course, the White House has your e-mail address —- again.

Where are they getting their e-mail lists? Are they opt-in lists? Are the subscribers to those lists aware that they are being sold? Did the "agree to" fine print include the White House? Are the getting names and addresses from other government web sites?

Have you received an e-mail from Mr. Axelrod or anyone else at the White House? Please enter your comments below.

Here is a copy of the Axelrod e-mail from the White House. The recipient's e-mail address was also included at the bottom of the message and it has been removed.
