Sen. Harry Reid Sets August 28 for Phone Town Hall Meeting
Washington, D.C. — Nevada Senator Harry Reid announced Tuesday that online registration for his tele-town hall on health insurance reform is now available. The call will be toll-free and open to any Nevadan who would like to participate in the August 28 discussion.
Approximately 50,000 Nevadans from all parts of the state and all political affiliations will receive a phone call inviting them to join Senator Reid’s live tele-town hall meeting, including all those who register online. After clicking the town hall button, users will then be asked to fill out their name, number, and email. Only those with Nevada numbers will receive calls to participate in the tele-town hall.
An additional line will be provided for reporters who would like to listen to the call. That number will be provided prior to the event. At this time, this is the only event scheduled.
There appears to be wide concern among voters throughout the country, that phone meetings lose the intent of face-to-face meetings which give Senators and Representatives the chance to give-and-take with constituents. Tele-meetings with thousands, even hundreds of participants hardly offer an opportunity for expression by a cross section of voters. And typically, both tele-meetings and webinars pre-screen questions. The answers are then provided without opportunity to debate.
